A fakir in a tattered kafni (long robe), Shirdi Sai Baba was an Indian yogi and a Muslim fakir, regarded by his Hindu and Muslim followers as a Saint.
The Shirdi phenomenon defies simple explanation. He is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva or Dattatreya and is said to appear to devotees of multiple faiths as their deity. He founded no religion or sect, developed no trademark spiritual philosophy or left behind any apostles.
